I have proudly served the City of Pleasant Hill for twelve years including three years as Mayor. Some of my proudest accomplishments and activities are:
- Measure K was passed. This sales tax measure allowed our city to tackle many infrastructure projects such as road repaving and storm drain improvements. It also allowed us to build the new city library.
- Pleasant Hill Library. Our state-of-the-art library opened in 2022. I was part of the subcommittee since its inception and remain on it today for any city related decisions. This library reflects our welcoming city and encourages imagination, activity, learning and community. It is a Net Zero library, producing as much power as it will use.
- Addressed issues related to Covid. Measures were taken to help our businesses adapt to the various phases of Covid as well as ensuring city services could be delivered. Supported the Pleasant Hill Perks program along with grant process for businesses to improve their online presence.
- To reinforce Pleasant Hill as an inclusionary city, a resolution was passed to set a high standard for how we treat people regardless of race, religion, gender or orientation. The Diversity subcommittee of the Civic Action Commission and its successor the Diversity Commission will continue our focus in this area.
- Pleasant Hill 2040. I sit on the General Plan Advisory Committee working on developing our general plan for the next 20 years. This process has also included our new Housing Element where we have had to address the challenging Regional Housing Needs Allocation. This process continues and we will continue to strive to improve public involvement.
- Regional Involvement. I sit on a number of boards representing Pleasant Hill and Central Costa County including; County Connection Board, Transpac (regional transportation planning board), CCTA (Contra Costa Transportation Authority board, and the Innovate 680 policy advisory committee. I also represent the 19 cities of Contra Costa on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for which I am currently serving my second year as Chair.
Our future is not without challenges. My background in finance allows me to play a vital role on City Council and our Budget Committee. The City's unfunded pension liability will create some financial challenges and will require a watchful eye and the development of ways to address it.
Through our Measure K funds and working with regional agencies, we need to continue to work on traffic issues and opportunities for alternate forms of transportation. We need to work with the school district and DVC as local traffic can be significantly impacted by school-related transportation.
